Quarantine officers are on the lookout for the screw worm fly which could devastate
Australia's multi-million dollar livestock industry.

The parasitic insect is endemic in tropical countries such as Papua New Guinea.

Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service supervising inspector PETER PEDERSEN says
screw worm fly is most likely to enter Australia via indigenous people travelling with
their animals across Torres Strait or via illegal immigrants.
