As he was seated at courtside Tuesday at Times Union Center, moments after calling Siena's 59-53 victory over Northeastern as part of ESPN's college basketball marathon, Sean McDonough was beckoned by a few fans. One was wearing a Red Sox jacket. Another wanted to know about Syracuse basketball.
"I talked to the Heimer the other day," McDonough told them, referring to Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim, "and he's even happy and optimistic."
McDonough, 47, has his regional allegiances -- he grew up in Boston, son of the late Boston Globe columnist Will McDonough, and went to college at Syracuse -- but his assignment base is national.
